A Tragic Night in Sacramento County
On the early morning of Friday, October 27, 2006, Deputy Mitchell was patrolling a rural area. Around 3:30 a.m., he radioed dispatch to report he was stopping a white Chevrolet van. Minutes later, when dispatch tried to check back, there was silence. By the time responding units arrived at the scene, they found Deputy Mitchell shot in the head, with his own service weapon. Evidence showed he fought desperately for his life before the fatal blow. “There was always a question, was it murder or suicide? But looking at the evidence, the struggle, the scene, it’s clear this was a violent homicide,” said Dr. Goold, who has discussed the case in the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast available for free on their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other platforms.

John J. Wiley is a retired Police Sergeant turned radio personality. He has been a full time FM Music Radio DJ since 2005. In 2017 he founded the Law Enforcement Today Podcast, in a partnership with Robert Greenberg of Law Enforcement Today. The show is now named the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast.
Within a couple months a radio station heard an episode of the podcast and asked him to create a radio version, which he did. It has been syndicated since the Spring of 2017 and has numerous affiliate radio stations across the US.
