The incident began shortly after midnight on Bearss Avenue near Nebraska Avenue. Deputy Kalin Hall, an 11-year veteran of the force and a member of the K-9 unit, attempted to pull over a black BMW. The driver initially fled, prompting Hall to attempt a second stop on Plantation Oaks Drive. It was during this second attempt that the suspect rammed the deputy. The sheriff's office released bodycam footage showing Hall activating his emergency lights and approaching the vehicle. The driver then accelerated rapidly, striking Hall and causing him to call for backup. Hall can be heard in the video requesting medical assistance, stating, "He ran over me. I need EMS. My leg's broken."

Hall was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery for a fractured leg. Officials report he is in good spirits but request thoughts and prayers for his recovery. Authorities located the suspect's vehicle abandoned approximately a mile from the scene. The owner of the vehicle has been identified, but it remains unclear if they were driving at the time of the incident.

Sheriff Chad Chronister condemned the suspect's actions, stating, “This suspect’s actions have no regard for human life, choosing to ram a deputy without considering that his reckless actions could tragically impact the deputy’s life. Our deputies come to work committed to making a difference in their community with every call for service, but also knowing how dangerous this career can be, putting their lives on the line every day.” Listen to Law Enforcement Talk Radio for free in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, our website or most major podcast platforms.

The sheriff's office is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 813-247-8200.

As the investigation continues, the sheriff's office and Tampa Police Department are working together to gather more details and locate the suspect responsible for this violent act.
